When I log into a Linux machine in the lab, all I have is a blank desktop!
For some reason, your default window manager has been changed to mwm. There is a script set up to fix this! Simply SSH into the cslab100 server with your username and password (you can use putty from one of the Windows machines), and run the command fixdesktop. See the Window Manager section for more information.
 I Can't Launch Firefox!
Sometimes, usually when Firefox is closed unexpectedly, the Firefox application will refuse to open, giving an error message similar to what is below:
"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart the system"
There is a quick little script on our machines to fix this issue! Just run the fixfirefox command, and you should be able to resume web browsing like normal! See the Firefox page for more details.
How do I access my files from outside the lab?
There's a whole section about File access from outside the lab, which details securely transferring files to and from our Linux servers.
How can I write programs from home?
Using the Secure Shell (SSH), you can access the Linux servers from anywhere in the world! See the section on Programming From Home for more information.
